Opera Order

The Singspiel found literally particularly dramatic expression in the dramas by Bertold Brecht (1898 to 1956), which were connected with music and singing, which often had a serious character and in these cases no longer had any comic endeavors. But the "Dreigroschenoper" (world premiere in Berlin 1928) with the text written by Bertold Brecht and the music composed by Kurt Weill (1900 to 1950), which brings the "The Beggar's Opera" (world premiere in London 1728) with the text written by John Gay (1685 to 1732) and the music composed by the German-born Johann Christoph Pepusch (1667 to 1752) to the topicality of the early twentieth century, stands for a recalling the beginnings of opera.

In the last quarter of the nineteenth century, under the decisive influence of French naturalism (around 1880 to 1920), the first literary movement of verismo emerged. According to its name, naturalism demanded concerning oneself with the beings and phenomena actually existing and occurring in the natural world. The Italian noun "Verismo" is derived from the Italian adjective "vero", which translated into English means "true" and "real".

The opera world saw itself called upon to depict and appreciate the reality of the population in operas. The Italian composers Pietro Mascagni (1863 to 1945), Giacomo Puccini (1858 to 1924) and Ruggero Leoncavallo (1857 to 1919) refer to these often more rough than romantic life situations of simple people. But these operas of classical music theater with their complex music owed to the claim to create intellectually highbrow art were more courtly than just polite performances.

In contrast to this, Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill with their "Dreigroschenoper" issued an opera with comparatively simple music closely related to folk and citizen music, which was no longer sung by opera singers but by actors and with this representation and its anything but elegant plot now again took into account the reality of life for ordinary people.

Michael Feldmann's Satirical Realopera basically takes into account the necessary environmental protection and the social and economic situation of modern civil society in rural and urban areas.
